Coming Soon – Little Wekiva Memories!
Coming Fall 2024, Little Wekiva Memories – A second kayaking adventure.
Life is an adventure! With any good adventure, there are surprises along the way that make the journey sweeter. Exploring the five springs flowing into the Little Wekiva River, in Longwood, Florida, is a grand adventure. The Wekiva River Basin in Central Florida includes the Little Wekiva, which meanders into the larger Wekiva River, as it twists and turns through dense sub-tropical jungle on its way to meet with the St. Johns River. The unassuming Little Wekiva River threads its way through brush and cypress. Occasionally the Florida fauna thins and a house will emerge near the water’s edge. The river is also home to all sorts of wild creatures including freshwater rays, soft shell turtles, and alligators. Bald Eagles swoop down, plucking fish from shallow pools. Great Blue Heron, White Ibis, and Anhingas preen by water’s edge. At times the amber colored stream is barely navigable, then it opens up into wide stretches fed by crystal clear spring water. A lovely, one-mile stretch of the river is dotted with five springs. Sanlando Springs is the largest with Palm, Ginger Ale, Pegasus, and Starbuck all running into the Little Wekiva as it flows by on its journey to the Atlantic Ocean. Join Leif and Nichole as they kayak, treasure hunt, and explore these beautiful springs. Their discoveries unearth mysteries of the natural world. Come along with them as they share unforgettable stories of people who make their homes along the banks of the Little Wekiva River.
